DStv LAUNCHES NEW CHINESE SERVICE

From food to fashion, entertainment to education, travel to trade China has become a global hotspot, as worldwide audiences look to the East for the latest information on what’s new, innovative and dynamic. Recognizing the demand for information and news from the region, DStv today (Thursday March 1) launched a new bouquet in selected African countries. Fittingly called GREAT WALL AFRICA and comprising 11 channels, the bouquet is completely dedicated to China and its incredible diversity, knowledge and power.
Designed for both Chinese communities living on the continent as well as Africans eager to understand more about this fascinating country, the bouquet includes several international channels from China Central Television (CCTV). In addition, it offers a selection of local Chinese TV stations in a range of languages including Chinese (Mandarin), English and French.
The channels which form part of the new bouquet are as follows:
  • CCTV 4:  Offers news, documentaries and series targeting Mandarin, Cantonese and English speaking audiences.
  • CCTV News:   A 24 hour news and commerce channel bringing viewers the latest from Asia.
  • CCTV François Chinese channel in French.
  • CCTV 9 Documentary:   Offers a combination of documentaries that showcase Chinese history, nature, social interactions and cultural lifestyle in both local Mandarin Chinese and English.
  • CNC:   Chinese news channel.

There are also a host of Mandarin focused channels available:
  • The 24 Hour Mandarin Entertainment Channel:   An entertainment channel offering drama series, children programs, variety shows and news programming.
  • China Movie:  24 hour Mandarin movie channel that features Chinese movies.
  • Shanghai Dragon TV:   24 hour Mandarin channel featuring movies, drama, global news, finance news, variety shows, children, educational content, cultural programs and lifestyle programs.
  • Hunan TV:  24 hour Mandarin channel featuring movies, drama, global news, finance news, variety shows, children, educational content, cultural programs and lifestyle programs.
  • JSTV – 1:  24 hour Mandarin entertainment television channel focusing on the Wuyue culture. The channel broadcasts news, showbiz information and television dramas.
  • Phoenix Entertainment:  24 hour Mandarin channel featuring movies, drama, global news, finance news, variety shows, children, educational content, cultural programs and lifestyle programs.

Currently DStv’s GREAT WALL AFRICA bouquet is only available in: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Comores, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Togo and Uganda.

Plus, in a special offer to DStv subscribers to allow them to experience this exciting new offering, the GREAT WALL AFRICA bouquet will be available free of charge to DStv subscribers (in the countries listed above) until March 31, 2012.  Thereafter it will cost 3,200Tshs per month extra as an add-on to an existing DStv subscription or 10,400 Tshs per month as a stand-alone bouquet.
